The severe winter storms that caused millions of dollars in damage earlier this year, along with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, are important reminders disasters can impact anyone. Take the time now to make an emergency plan and take simple steps to protect your home and family from future disasters.

DENTON, Texas — Time is running short. Texas residents and businesses recovering from uninsured or underinsured losses and damage caused by February’s severe winter storms have two weeks left to register for disaster assistance with FEMA and apply for a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loan.

The deadline to register with FEMA and apply with the SBA is May 20, 2021.

The fastest and easiest way to apply to FEMA is by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov.

Texans in the 126 counties* designated for disaster assistance who were affected by February’s severe winter storms and still need help have many resources to support their recovery efforts. Review FEMA’s recovery checklist to ensure you’ve taken all the steps in your federal assistance process:

Survivors of the February severe winter storms in Texas who apply for disaster assistance from FEMA may be referred to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) with information on how to apply for a disaster loan.

Texas residents whose furnaces, septic systems or wells were damaged by February’s severe winter storms may be eligible for financial assistance under FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program. If denied assistance, applicants may appeal.
