Environmental Requirements to Apply for FEMA Funding

When a community applies for FEMA funding — such as Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation Assistance or Preparedness Grants — potential impacts to the environment and cultural resources must be considered.

Regional News and Information

The state of Rhode Island and FEMA have opened a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Lincoln in Providence County to help Rhode Island residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that took place from December 17-19, 2023, and January 9-13, 2024.

FEMA’s Individual Assistance (IA) program and the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA’s) Disaster Loan Program are the federal government’s two primary sources of financial assistance to help individuals and households recover and rebuild from a major disaster. In many cases, homeowners and renters find that they need assistance from both programs to support their recovery.

Rhode Islanders who live in Kent, Providence and Washington counties and had a privately owned road or bridge damaged or destroyed by the severe storms and flooding that took place Dec. 17-19, 2023, and/or January 9-13, 2024, FEMA or the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) may provide financial assistance for replacement or repairs.
