Less than 24 hours after flash flooding had struck Addison County, Vermont, FEMA Region I Administrator Art Cleaves joined Gov. James Douglas on an aerial survey of the damage. FEMA officials also accompanied the Governor on a ground tour to select sites. Several state highways in the area had to be closed due to major washouts and several bridges also sustained major damage. The flooding came following several days of heavy rains. Additional rains are expected, so federal, state and local officials are on alert.
FEMA Region I has created a web page that puts real-time hazard threat information right at the fingertips of New England residents.
